Stephaine Okereke wanted by EFCC Over N50 million largesse donated by Akpabio

The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood is poised for a showdown as the Association of Nollywood Core Producers,ANCOP, has petitioned EFCC and SFU over the N50 million largesse donated by Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State to support the industry.

The association is alleging massive fraud in the disbursement of the fund. It has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) to investigate the matter.According to a copy of the petition made available to HVP, signed by the association’s President, Comrade Alex Eyengho, the group is asking the agencies to invite the National President of the Association of Movie Producers, AMP, Zik Zulu Okafor, the National President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN, Andy Amenechi; the Secretary General of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Yakubu Abubakar and actress Stephanie Okereke- Linus Idahosa for obtaining the fund and disbursing it without the consent of the industry’s stakeholders.

Part of the petition dated August 19, 2013 and addressed jointly to the EFCC and SFU, read thus:

Woman commits suicide in Ondo after her husband refused to buy her an Ipad

A 41-year-old woman, Mrs Catherine Sefunmi Urouna, on Saturday, committed suicide by drinking a chemical substance in protest of her husband's refusal to buy her an ipad device. 

nobody believed that a mother of five, happily married could take such a nasty decision to take her own life over an ipad. The police in Ondo State are, however, investigating the actual cause of her death. 

The 41-year-old woman and mother of two boys and a girl was a senior executive accounting officer in Akure North local government council, Iju/Ita-Ogbolu of Ondo State. She was said to have threatened to kill herself a fortnight ago if the husband didn’t get her an ipad; even as the husband pleaded with her to continue using the Blackberry phone.

 

Pope breaks again another Vatican protocol

The Pope has broken yet another point of Vatican protocol by bowing when he met Queen Rania of Jordan.

As head of state at the Vatican, not to mention the leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics  protocol requires visitors to bow to him when they meet him at the Holy See.

But the Pope, who has made the forgetting of formalities a trademark of his papacy, bowed when he met Rania, Queen of Jordan, as she visited the Vatican with her husband King Abdullah II on Thursday.

A Catholic Priest killed by his own gun

A Catholic Cleric Rev.Father Peter Ayala, was found dead in his room at St Thomas Moore Catholic Church, Sobe, Owan West Local Government Council of Edo State on 25 August

It was a Black Sunday for some parishioners as A Catholic Priest was found in a pool of blood of his own blood with a locally made gun and a plier beside him. It was said that the priest may have been cleaning his gun when it fell and exploded, killing him instantly, as church parishioners were gathered already for the 7am mass.

But it was believed that the cleric might have been shot by an unknown person, since he could not have been cleaning his gun when he was already dressed for Sunday Mass. And this was where the family disagreed with the leadership of the Church in Auchi Diocese.

Born as a twin, he grew up a dedicated Catholic like other members of his family and was ordained into the priesthood in 1997. Though Sunday Vanguard learnt that the deceased has been transferred to several parishes, he never complained and never showed any sign of frustration in his calling.

Adriana Andrade, a 19-year old Brazilian girl, swallowed her phone to prevent her boyfriend from reading her text messages.

According to reports, her boyfriend demanded to see her phone, when he suspected she was cheating on him, but Adriana refused and swallowed it instead.

She was later rushed to the hospital when she started feeling uncomfortable and was operated upon to save her life.
